Foot/Ankle Pain

Modern society has imposed some unique stresses on the feet, and it is no surprise that many people suffer from foot pain. Think about where humans spend the majority of their time, and what we stand on. Walkways, bike paths, parking lots are all made from some form of concrete, asphalt, or some other very firm surface. Indoors, many office buildings have tile, concrete or linoleum floors. Perhaps some houses enjoy hardwood floors. The point is that people spend a lot of time standing or functioning on very hard surfaces.

The feet are the first area of the body to receive the impact of walking and other daily activities. Biomechanically, this is where shock absorption begins. Walking imposes a force of 1-3x your body weight with each step that must be dispersed (running and jumping is more!). When the feet are not functioning properly, problems are likely to occur.

We take a unique approach in examining and adjusting the feet to restore the joints of the foot to normal motion. We often will work with patients on what type of footwear will work best for them, and can create custom made functional orthotics to stabilize foot issues.

We do not directly treat specific foot problems, but we restore normal function to the feet, and problems typically resolve on their own. The following is a brief list of some problems that have had excellent success in our office:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Metatarsalgia
  • Neuroma (aka Morton’s neuroma)
  • Hammer toes
  • Claw toes
  • Sesamoiditis
  • Turf Toe
  • Bunion (Hallux Valgus)
  • Calcaneal Tendinitis
  • Heel spurs
  • Ankle sprains
  • High ankle sprains
